Ever dreamed of becoming a world-famous YouTuber or TikTok star, conducting interviews with cool people from around the globe? Or maybe you’re that kid who is always asking questions … either way: this workshop is for you! Oral history is a powerful tool that anyone can use to capture interviews that record the everyday stories of the people around us. Oral history can be used to preserve history, amplify underheard voices, shed light on communities & regions … & can be used as a building block for museum exhibits, podcasts and documentaries! In this hands-on oral history workshop, we’ll learn a little about the history of oral history, while we learn how to conduct high-quality interviews about people’s life stories AND about themes you’re interested in! We’ll explore the variety of audio recording equipment out there, and step by step, you’ll build out an amazing interview with someone in your community. We’ll close out the week turning that interview into an oral history product – exhibit panel, short audio clip, website, artwork, or more – to amplify the story! Let’s get ready to ask some questions!
