What to pack for a Scouts Summer Camp.

Getting ready for your adventure? Here is a list of essential things that no Boy or Girl Scout should forget for their summer trip.

November 17, 2023

Packing for a Scouts trip can be a bit of a handful, you have to be ready for every situation, every weather and every adventure, but you also have to pack lightly. There are some essentials that no Boy or Girl Scout should leave the house without, here are the most important ones.

Clothing Essentials.

Don’t forget to take your Scouts uniform and all of your badges, also some warm clothes for the chilly nights and a raincoat in case it rains. Make sure that all of your clothes are comfy and that you won’t mind if they get dirty, as it can get real muddy in the fields. Some hiking boots are recommended, they are great for your feet and for walking through rough terrains.

Just as it can be rainy, it can be really sunny, so make sure to take something to cover your head and not get sunburned! Sunscreen and repellent are also very recommended.

Camping Gear.

Get ready for the night with all your camping gear. Make sure that you have your tent (don’t forget to check the pegs), your sleeping bag, an extra blanket in case it gets cold, and if you really want to have a good night sleep, a pillow and a sleeping mattress could also be a good idea.

Important Equipment.

Survival training is key for the Scouts, therefore, there will be many fun adventures where you will have to find your way, overcome different challenges and survive in the wild! There is some equipment that could help you with this, like a flashlight, in case you go wandering at night; a compass, so you never lose your way; a multi-tool or pocket knife, for whenever you need a tool; a lighter, for when you want to start a bonfire; a notebook, for all your great ideas, important notes and memories; a water bottle, so you stay hydrated; and duct tape, you never know when you might need it.

You might also want to take some entertainment, like a book or playing cards for when you want to chill in the tent with your friends. Trash bags are also important, so you can clean up after yourself and leave a clean campsite. And finally, a camera so you can capture all the great moments that you’ll live.

Food .

Instant foods with next to no preparation, like instant oatmeal, and canned foods are the best option. Beans, spaghetti-o’s, meatballs, sausages, instant noodles, and things like that. You might also want to take some snacks for when you just want a quick bite, like cereal bars, trail mix, crisps, chocolate, cookies and marshmallows.

You should have something to heat up your food in the fire, so make sure to take cooking utensils, and if you really want to make everything easier, then take a portable camp stove. Lastly, don’t forget to take a plate, knife, spoon and fork, and reuse them by washing them in the river. Remember, it is very important to leave no trace.
